How to Perform Umrah

1)    Enter into Ihram at Meeqaat

2)    Start reciting Talbiyah at Meeqat

3)    Enter into Makkah

4)    Circumbulate the Kaa’bah seven times (This is called “Tawaaf”)

5)    Drink Zam Zam after the seven rounds of Tawaaf around the Kaa’bah

6)    Proceed to do Sa’ee starting at Mount Safa

7)    Make seven rounds of walking between Mount Safa and Mount Marwah

8)    From Safa to Marwah is considered one round

9)    From Marwah to Safa is considered one round

10) “First round” start at Safa and “Last round” ends at Marwah

After all these rituals, the final event is “cutting the hair or shaving the head” and that action completes the Umrah which means that all that were restricted now becomes permissible.

It is important to note that getting into the Ihram clothing does not put someone in a state of Ihram. The pilgrim is in a “State of Ihram” when he/she passes the Meeqaat and only then certain permitted (Halaal) actions becomes restricted (Haraam) and the Pilgrim must be in constant rememberance of Allah and reciting the Talbiyah.

Talbiyah:

Labaik Allah-hummah Labaik,  Labbaik La Shareeka Labaik,  In-nal Hamda Wal Ni’amata

Laka Wal Mulk,  La Shareeka Lak

The Talbiyah starts at Meeqaat and ends when the Pilgrim enters Masjid Al-Haram.

Du’a to be recited BEFORE starting Sa’ee at “Mount Safa

Innas-Safaa wal Marwata min sha’aa’irillaah, ‘Abda’u bimaa bada’allaahu bihi

Meaning:

Surely Safa and Marwah armong the signs of Allah. I begin by that which Allah began.

The Prophet (SAWS) would then proceed by saying:

Laa ilaaha illallah, Allaahu Akbar

Du’a to be recited during Sa’ee at “Safa” and “Marwah

Laailaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa Huwaalaa kulli shay’in Qadeer, laailaaha illallaahu wahdahu, anjaza wa’dahu, wa nasaraabdahu, wa hazamalahzaaba wahdahu.
